Are you an experienced or aspiring basketry artist or basket weaver who enjoys creating with others in a community studio setting? Would you like feedback on a current basketry project? Join the Basketry Open Studio! Bring your supplies and current basketry project to Textile Center for this community open studio time, and get feedback and assistance on your project from one of our gifted teaching artists.

Instructor Bio:

Debbie Johnson’s greatest passion is sharing the tradition of basket weaving and basketry techniques through teaching. She was a founding member of the North Shore Basket Guild (Duluth, MN) in 1999 and began teaching in 2002. Debbie continues to hone her skills, exploring natural weaving materials and participating in conference workshops. She served as President of the MN Basket Weavers Guild for the last 5 years and co-curated the 20th Anniversary exhibition at Textile Center in 2018. A longtime member of the National Basketry Organization (NBO), she was a NBO scholarship recipient in 2019 and now serves on the NBO Guild Committee, Teacher’s Group and 2023 Conference Committee. Debbie is also a beloved member of Textile Center’s Shop Team where she shares her knowledge and love of textiles with everyone she meets!

This class is a offered as part of the new Basket Weaving at Textile Center special interest group (formerly the Minnesota Basket Weavers Guild). Generous scholarships for this Open Studio class as well as other basketry classes are made possible by the Basket Weaving at Textile Center special interest group.
