Explore the art of Jacobean Crewel embroidery in this two-night class. Developed in the 17th century as a fanciful interpretation of Elizabethan designs mixed with motifs coming from India, Jacobean Crewel incorporates many different stitches and color combinations that still capture our imaginations today. Learn eight different stitches of Jacobean Crewel (including long and short, whipped chain, pearl, laid work, seed filling, colonial knot, and raised stem) by creating a small traditional style image. Gain insight into the history of this rich art from. Suitable for beginners or for those who have already taken Intro to Jacobean Crewel and are interested in learning more.

Materials fee $10, payable to instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:

James Morehouse has been embroidering for about 50 years, starting as a teenager. He studied at the Royal School of Needlework in London where he earned his certificate in technical hand embroidery. Jacobean crewel, silk shading, and gold work are his main areas of interest, and he enjoys creating traditional designs for church use and for pleasure. Morehouse’s embroideries have won blue ribbons and sweepstakes at the Minnesota State Fair.

Withdrawal Policy

If you need to withdraw from a class, please email Cristin McKnight Sethi, Director of Education, at cmcknightsethi@textilecentermn.org.

 

If your withdrawal request is received at least 10 business days before the start of your class, you are eligible to (pick one):

1) Receive a tuition refund (minus a $25 processing fee). 2) Transfer your full tuition to another currently listed class (i.e. a class that is listed on the website at the time of your withdrawal request). 3) Convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.

If your withdrawal request is received less than 10 business days before the start of your class, you are eligible to (pick one):

1) Transfer your class spot to another person (i.e. gift your class registration to a friend, neighbor, or family member). You must communicate any transferring of class registration to Cristin McKnight Sethi (cmcknightsethi@textilecentermn.org). Please let Cristin know the name and email address of the person who will be taking your spot in class. 2) Convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.

We are unable to provide a refund or make a tuition transfer if your notice of withdrawal is received less than 10 business days before the start of your class. This includes in cases of COVID-19, other illnesses, or medical emergencies.
