Alla Hale
Get inspired by our favorite brunch item — Avocado Toast — to create a fun, yet sophisticated knit hat using yarn dyed from food scraps and invasive plants. Learn to extract color from buckthorn berries (for a yummy green hue) and avocado pits (for a pretty pink), and explore a new knitting stitch. Prepare and dye a small skein of pre-mordanted yarn with natural dyes. There will be time for casting on the hat during class using the dyed yarn. Then take home the brim of the hat as well as extra yarn for the accent colors to complete your hat at home. Open to intermediate knitters, though an ambitious beginner may find it within reach as well.
$40 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the start of class, includes all materials necessary to make one Avocado Toast Hat

Instructor Bio:
Alla Hale (she/her) is a knitter based in St. Paul, Minnesota who uses fiber art to live into her core values of creativity and connection. Each piece she creates speak to the profound beauty of working with her hands, transforming raw materials into something functional, beautiful, or otherwise meaningful.
Alla sources her materials locally, partnering with local shepherds and foraging for dye plants in the Minnesota landscape. This practice roots her work in the community and the land, fostering a deep sense of connection to both. Teaching fiber art classes privately and with the Textile Center around the Twin Cities is an extension of this connection. Through her classes she share the skills and joy of knitting and other fiber arts, and occasionally painting, helping others discover the expressive power of fiber art.
As a practicing data scientist, Alla is captivated by the intricate designs that emerge from seemingly simple elements. The combinations of each stitch, stroke, data point, and raw material tells complex and harmonious stories.
Her work celebrates the interconnectedness of community, nature, and pattern seeking. It is her hope that each piece she creates and every class she teaches resonate with a sense of place and belonging, reflecting the rich tapestry of our shared human experience. @HarvestedHues on Instagram and Ravelry
