India has an enormous market for all things textile, from design to manufacture, from material to end product. It is famous for its embroidered, dyed, and printed textiles. Join Maheshwari to experience the textile art and fabric work of artist/designers who look at textiles in different ways, and for whom color, design, and embellishment play a big role in the designing of wearable Indian clothing. Her own experience with Indian textiles will take you through a journey as you travel to different cities, famous for their specific textiles, drawing on her expertise and collection of personal photographs. Come and be inspired by ideas for transforming your own textiles, with a Q&A session at the end.
The Zoom link will be sent to you upon event registration in your confirmation email. You will be able to join the event by downloading the Zoom app on your device, joining through your web browser, or by calling in.
Shakun Maheshwari’s love of painting on textile began with the idea of creating an unusual designed saree for her mom. Combining her skills of embroidery and painting, she continued with making unique gifts for wedding guests. While in India, she learned the art of Batik and fifteen years ago, she started to practice Batik again when she had the opportunity to teach. Maheshwari loves how color spreads on silk and the unusual effect of wax and dyes in the batik process. In her spare time, she practices embroidery, knitting, crochet, tatting, bead work, and macramé.
