When June 10, 2017 – From sundown at 8:59 pm to sunrise at 5:26 am
Location: Coffman Memorial lawn on the East Bank near Weisman Art Museum
Textile Center and Weavers Guild of MN present Lawn-a-Loom: Weaving out of Waste. This project will span a space of Coffman Lawn, creating a site-specific loom as a part of Northern Spark, a free all-night art festival exploring the effects of climate change through participatory projects happening in neighborhoods along Metro Transit’s Green Line.
It’s easy for anyone–all ages and artistic ability–to participate, bring your own materials and learn to weave!
We’ll weave with discarded textiles and yarn. Participants are invited to contribute surplus material of their choice to the collaborative textile. Our weaving could include: old clothing, computer cables, plastic bags, raw wool, blankets, belts, flags, and more. Dive in and create art out of waste!
You’ll be able to put your whole body into the process – it’s a collaborative experience.
We need volunteers to help guide newbie weavers through the night! Sign up for a shift here.
Presented in collaboration with the Weisman Art Museum.
