March 6 – May 31, 2014 • Joan Mondale Gallery

Called “especially inventive” by the New York Times, Philadephia-based Leslie Pontz’s dynamic sculptures combine such disparate substances as crocheted metal, monofilament, natural wool, linen, jute, silk organza, and rusted industrial pieces. Her organic crocheted forms juxtapose raw and delicate elements–spanning the boundaries of perfection and imperfection.

“This concept of co-existing contrasts … constantly reminds me that life itself presents an array of conflicts that always need balancing.”–Leslie Pontz

Pontz has exhibited in Paris, Brazil, and Venezuela as well as throughout the US. Her work is featured in such collections as the Kamm and Philadelphia Museum of Art. This is her debut exhibition in Minnesota.

Also at the reception, join Textile Center in welcoming to our community Nicole LaBouff, the new Assistant Curator of Textiles in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts’ Department of Decorative Arts, Textiles and Sculpture.
