Through the Years
The Weavers Guild of Minnesota’s Scandinavian Weavers Study Group (Scanweavers)

Through the Years provides a “textile tour” of Scandinavian weaving techniques—the best of the tradition as interpreted by local weavers. Scanweavers members were invited to choose a favorite weaving created while being a part of the study group. Through the Years showcases a variety of techniques that represent topics that have been studied through the years.

The exhibition represents both weavers new to the craft and those who have woven for decades. Likewise, the looms used range from simple heddles with a backstrap to complex floor looms. The work incorporates varied fibers such as wool imported from Norway and linen and cotton imported from Sweden.

The Scanweavers, now celebrating their 20th year, are committed to the study and promotion of traditional Scandinavian weaving techniques, encouraging its members to preserve traditional folk art techniques and use the techniques to expand contemporary artistic expression.
