Sandra Brick
Blingify your life with mirrorwork embroidery. Inspired by shisha embroidery from Southern and Western Asia, learn stitching techniques for adding mirror embellishments that infuse your fiber art projects with sparkle and shine. Explore strategies for affixing small mirrors to cloth using a combination of chain stitches and buttonhole stitches. Students with basic stitching experience welcome (e.g. should be able to thread a needle and do a simple running stitch).
Materials fee is $15, payable to the instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:
Sandra Brick is a trainer, coach, and educator with over 21 years of experience with the Textile Center as both an instructor and former board member. She has designed and developed 35+ workshops and courses in a diverse range of topics such as fabric dyeing, design theory, beading, creative problem solving, and technology workshops for artists. Brick’s explorations in new materials and techniques have inspired her innovative body of work in surface design, stitching and mixed media, which has been widely exhibited. facebook.com/TE.SandraBrick/

Mirrorwork Embroidery • Tuesday, April 23, 6 – 9 pm

Let's celebrate Earth Month by exploring new ways to use our scraps! Join us at Sociable Cider Werks to learn two different methods to seamlessly connect even the smallest pieces of yarn scraps together to create a whole new ball yarn. Great for aspiring and experienced knitters and crocheters alike as well as anyone who likes to craft with yarn.

Ages 21+ , well-behaved dogs are welcome in Sociable's Tap Room.

Pre-registration is recommended, but drop-ins are welcomed to join!

*This class is located at Sociable Cider Werks, 1500 Fillmore St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413. Parking is available in the lot in front of their building.

We encourage participants to support Sociable and purchase a cider, seltzer, beer, or NA beverage when you come for class!

Do you love to swim, skate, tumble, or twirl? Are you interested in creating your own customized performance wear for the pool, rink, gym, or stage? This class is for you! Learn to sew and reinforce stretchy fabrics and performance wear knits. Gain confidence in how to select a design, choose appropriate fabric, cut and fit a pattern, and construct a base garment that can be embellished with rhinestones, embroidery, or other surface decoration at home. Come away with a test costume and relevant samples that you create and the confidence to tackle tricky performance wear projects in the future!

This class is open to beginning sewists who have basic sewing skills. Bring your own sewing machine, in good working order (machine must have at least one stretch stitch--see supply list for details). This is an adult-level sewing class open to youth performers who would like to learn alongside / collaborate with an accompanying adult.

Materials fee is $15, payable to the instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:
Colleen Kahn (she/her) learned to sew as a child through 4-H and had the great luck to be mentored by dedicated and patient women. Colleen earned degrees in Clothing Design from College of St. Catherine and London College of Fashion. Over the years, she completed additional training and gained expertise in bridal, men's tailoring, millinery, costume making, alterations, dyeing, surface design, and more. Colleen has spent many years sewing custom wedding and formal wear in the Twin Cities. She founded Stitch Masters Sewing School in 2021.

Looking for a pants pattern to work from that is both flattering and provides freedom of movement? Learn to do the fitting to achieve a custom fit in this special 3-day workshop!

Using a muslin from a preexisting pattern (of your choice) with clean silhouette, students will work to do the necessary fitting adjustments on the body. Then transfer those changes to a new paper pattern. A second test garment is always required (and sometimes a third as well!), so we will work through whatever is necessary so that your pattern is
